Mayor's "Give a Day" at Supplies Over Seas (April 21, 2015)

On April 21st, a great group of people from Sister Cities of Louisville joined forces with the Catalyst Learning Company to provide nearly 20 people for the Mayor's "Give A Day"  at Supplies Over Seas. For three hours, we bagged exam gloves, boxed surgical sterile gloves, and packed boxes filled with both. It was amazing to see what we accomplished in only three hours! Karen Womack, Volunteer Manager, ran an extremely organized ship - there was no wasted time or space. It was a really rewarding experience.

Supplies Over Seas meets critical health care needs in developing countries around the world by recovering and redistributing surplus medical supplies and equipment. SOS promotesenvironmental stewardship, partnering with hospitals and others to recover and send what would otherwise go to the landfill.

Chai & Chit Chat (April 8, 2015)

On April 8th from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm, Sister Cities of Louisville hosted "Chai and Chit Chat" to showcase the Beaded Treasures Project (BTP) and their enterprising refugee women from Asia, Africa and the Middle East, who now call Louisville "home". This event was free, open to the public, and really well attended! Over 80 people learned about BTP while sipping on delicious chai tea. Mayor Fischer stopped by and spoke about BTP's benefit to Louisville. Surekha Kulkarni, Founder of BTP, and Kevin Lynch, President of the Sister Cities of Louisville Board of Directors, also spoke about the two organizations and our partnership.

BTP is a Louisville based nonprofit organization that uses a microcredit approach to entrepreneurship to train refugee women residing in Louisville in home-based crafting skills to create marketable retail products, and basic business and financial literacy to promote economic self-sufficiency.
